| Description |
Citrate Synthase (CS) (EC 2.3.3.1) is widely present in the mitochondrial matrix of animals, plants, microorganisms and cultured cells and is the first rate-limiting enzyme of the tricarboxylic acid cycle and one of the main regulatory sites of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. CS catalyzes the production of citric acid coenzyme A from acetyl CoA and oxaloacetate, which is further hydrolyzed to produce citric acid; this reaction drives the conversion of colorless DTNB to yellow TNB with characteristic absorbance values at 412 nm. |
